Chevrolet to take on Mustang Cobra Jet and Challenger Drag Pak with race-only Camaro?

2010 chevrolet camaro ss2 450x298 Chevrolet to take on Mustang Cobra Jet and Challenger Drag Pak with race only Camaro?

In recent years, Ford and Dodge have produced limited-edition, drag-race-only models built to compete in various NHRA classes. Both automakers have amped up their programs for 2011, with Ford releasing the revised Mustang Cobra Jet and Dodge unveiling its V10-powered Challenger Drag Pak at SEMA last November.

Will Chevrolet join the party? While General Motors hasn’t hinted that it will, its competition at Ford Racing appears to know otherwise. In an interview regarding the Cobra Jet, Ford Racing’s drag racing competition manager, Jesse Kershaw, hinted at a new Camaro built for drag racing:

“Some people revel in competition and some people don’t like the competition, but what is really interesting is that we’re seeing a resurgence of the muscle car wars from the late ’60s. So we see where the competition like Dodge has produced a Challenger to compete with us, and now they’ve had to step up their ante with a V10 version. We know that General Motors is on track to release a Camaro version. I think that the NHRA fans as well as the racers themselves are very excited to get out there and have this new era of horsepower war.”

Both Ford and Dodge unveiled their purpose-built drag racers at SEMA, so we’ll have our eyes and ears open for any potential news from GM come November. Read more…

2002 Chevrolet Corvette Poor Radio Reception or Radio Static/Increased Bulletin

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2005 model year and update the part number information for Permatex Quick Grid. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-08-44-005B (Section 08 — Body and Accessories).

Condition: Some customers may comment that the radio has poor reception or radio static/increased interference when the rear window defogger is turned on. Also, some rear window defogger grids may be inoperative.

Cause: This condition may be due to microscopic cracks in the electrically heated grids of the rear window defogger. These cracks may cause electrical interference when the rear defogger is on and this could affect radio reception.

Background: The addition of vertical grid lines to the heated back window defogger circuits has made it difficult to detect broken defogger grid lines. In the past, it was a simple matter to use a voltmeter to check the continuity of each grid line in order to locate a non-functional line. New design back windows have two vertical grid lines that connect all of the horizontal grid lines together, thereby providing alternate routes for the electrical current to follow. This makes the old test method ineffective.

There are three distinct zones across the back window that must be checked. They are:

the driver’s side outboard of the two vertical lines

the passenger side outboard of the two vertical lines

the central zone that falls between the two vertical lines

Chevrolet Small Block V3120/V3220 Installation Manual

Prepping The Block
Disconnect battery; remove all existing accessory drive brackets and components from motor. Remove water pump, scrape away any existing gasket material with a gasket scraper and dress surface with a Scotch Briteо pad.
Clean and prep threads on engine block at water pump and driver side bosses by crank (for power steering kits), use a 3/8-16 thread chaser if necessary. Thread chasers are available at your local auto parts store or tool dealer and are different from a thread cutting tool.
Apply RTV sealer to one end of the three 3/8-16 x 3” threaded studs and thread two studs into the driver side water pump mount holes and one stud into the upper passenger side mount hole and tighten.
Apply RTV sealer to one end of the remaining 3/8-16 x 4” stud and thread into the bottom passenger side mount hole and tighten. The studs can easily be tightened by threading two 3/8-16 zinc coated nuts onto the stud and tighten them against each other to act as a drive nut.
Install Alternator & A/C Brackets
Install the large O-rings into both sides of the passenger side compressor bracket by seating them into the recessed groves, install the small by-pass O-rings in the same manner. Place bracket over studs and seat up against engine block. Install the large O-rings into both sides of the driver side alternator bracket by seating them into the recessed groves. Place bracket over studs and seat up against engine block.
For kits with power steering – apply anti-seize to the threads of the two 3/8-16 x 2” socket head cap screws and thread through the power steering bracket, alternator bracket and into engine block and finger tighten. For kits without power steering – apply anti-seize to the threads of the two 3/8-16 x 1-1/4” socket head cap screws and thread through the alternator bracket and into engine block and finger tighten.

1992-93 Chevrolet MIS-Diagnosed Power Steering Pump Noise

A whine noise emanating at the front of the vehicle that appears to be coming from the power steering pump.
The noise may actually be the result of a failed bearing in the alternator. The following procedure can help determine the source of the noise by isolating the power steering pump from the alternator (GM reference bulletin 463201).
1. Isolate the power steering pump from the alternator by installing an accessory drive belt off of a 3.4L equipped 1993 or 1994 Camaro or Firebird. Install the diagnosis belt as shown in FIGURE 1.
2. Run the engine and listen for the noise. Do not drive the vehicle with this belt attached. If the noise is gone, the power steering system is most likely at fault. If the noise remains, proceed to diagnose the remaining elements of the accessory drive including the generator.
3. After the noise is successfully corrected, remove the accessory drive belt used for diagnosis.
4. Install the original accessory drive belt.
