2011 BMW Vision ConnectedDrive Concept

BMW car maker has unveiled new concept models and an array of intelligent driver information technologies that will find their way in future production models, it’s the concept named BMW Vision ConnectedDrive. And we get information the new 2011 BMW Vision ConnectedDrive Concept be world debuted at Geneva Auto Show Next Month.

BMW is only offering up a few details on this concept, but judging by its name, we expect a vehicle that will include the latest car-to-car communication features. It was penned under the supervision of BMW’s new head of design, Adrian von Hooydonk. The Vision ConnectedDrive concept study, in a two-seat roadster guise, presents the automobile as a fully integrated part of the networked world in both its design and technological innovations. It is with this concept that BMW presents the potential of current and future in-car technology for optimizing comfort, safety and infotainment.

BMW car maker on the official office said “In 2011 the automobile industry is celebrating the anniversary “125 yeas of the automobile,” reason enough to not only look back, but also to look forward. Connectivity is one of the key fields of tomorrow’s world. And of course, we at BMW are proud to be among the pioneers of connected driving: for example, with the first on-board internet access in 2008, the first iPod integration in 2004, or the first ultrasound-based park distance control PDC in 1991.”

The concept embodies the dynamic BMW design language with its long wheelbase, set back seating position and long bonnet but combines it with taut surfaces and distinctive flowing lines. This results in an interesting play of light and shadow making the car appear as if it is accelerating even at a standstill. The sliding doors, inspired by those on the BMW Z1, disappear into the body of the car. This allows the BMW ConnectedDrive Concept to be driven with the doors open, emphasising the link between the vehicle and its environment.

The BMW ConnectedDrive Vision has a director of stratification in the design, demonstrating the link between the driver, passengers, vehicles and the environment. This is seen by the installation of complex light shows the way to exchange data with the pilot and the passenger as a starting point and end of each interaction. The interior is divided into three layers – the comfort, entertainment and security – each with a corresponding light fixture. Each layer is defined by the color, rhythm, movement and texture, and through the transparent surfaces in the path information can be viewed through fiber-optic lighting.

The interior is much more futuristic, but the minimalist design philosophy can be applied in a more productive kind of how the next generation of BMW models. The BMW ConnectedDrive Vision Concept offers numerous technologies, including a fully programmable panel, shown in three dimensions and a separate unit of HUD (Head-Up Display), and various driver assistance systems.
